Wings in the Forest--A Garden Chronicle for 2011 (entry 7)

It is that time of year again, when Spring grabs a hold of our spirits and the next thing we know we are growing as wild as the vines. I would say weeds, while weeds have their purpose--they do not belong in our garden! The little ones grabbed right on to the task of weeding and seemed a bit shocked that we were asking them to pull plants out of the ground.

We were also fortunate enough to have many small visitors--humans, reptiles, dogs, and bird friends. Baby animals are such an attraction for the young people that we grown ups had to do most of the garden work ourselves.

Of course all of our hard work is starting to show--no one was more
shocked than J***(you know who you are) and I to find
that not only are our peas and
sunflowers thriving, but we could actually pick and eat the radishes.





We also added carrots, zucchini, tomatoes and some other vegetable that I
had never heard of that Mindi and Blake brought.




The compost pile is growing and the young people worked hard to turn it over. And Miles and J****, were having fun exploring alternative uses for tools.
